Per Emily's request, even though I have nothing in particular to post, I thought I would just tell you about living like a king. This summer, I am living in Madison with my friend Shambo. So Shambo, our friend Jesus, and I went to get some grocieries because we wanted to cook out at his frat. Shambo said he could make some awesome white boy mexican fajitas. And he did. It was really nice, we had a few beers and ate a lot. His frat is really nice, right on the lake, beautiful view, I can see myself cooking out there a bunch. After that Yana, maybe my more dedicated readers remember, came over and we watched two movies, 24 Hour Party People and Taxi Driver. I've seen them both before, but this time Taxi Driver hit me in a different way. When Travis saves Iris, he takes a gun and puts it under his chin and pulls the trigger. The gun, tragically I suppose, was out of bullets. For the first time, I just wanted Travis to have what he wanted - escape. When he talks about a rain coming to wash away the filth, I think he may be also referring to himself. There are all these shots of things boiling over, pills in water, kicking the tv, lights that blur to take up the entire shot, and such. So there is this obvious theme of build up and release. Along with the other trade marks of Taxi Driver, I think that Travis, as the ending implies, is a product of the build up he hates so much. His saving Iris is saving himself, releasing the anger he has built up over the months. Represented by his final cool social interaction with betsy, the pill, so to speak, that bubbles his cup of water. Anyway, that is it. Shambo and I are going to watch X-Men 2. Goodnight everyone and I love you all.
