oh yeh
Now I'm Artsy Wordy and Dorky

Za Za Zsu

**Two Hipsters part ways, dreaming of college days.

**

You went looking for new earth

To sooth the aching of rebirth

But you took me and you took chances,

And seeing all the creatures do their dances,

You got restless and joined them on the floor,

Suddenly its tomorrow and today is no more.

There are songs I should sing to your ear,

And if I knew the words, I’d with no fear.

But I know you only laugh when I sing

But your pulling apart our makeshift sling.

Your cloud's out of place in my Midwestern sky

Yet all seems to function when sitting dogs lie,

But a window for persistence

Can’t make up for distance.

Laughing at my sentimental folly

Is like chalking lines around my body.

Walking the shoreline of the lake

Your laughter still makes me shake

There are a lot of things I’m going to miss;

Beers in the park while you watch as I piss,

(And that five hour long goodnights kiss.)

One year later there are but melodies

And shadowed cobwebs of memories.

I used to swing on wooden horses

In the backyard away from your city forces

Hee haws turned to ahhs and ohhs

And simple questions of friend or foe

Turned to the sad cry of sex or no

Eventually time would wake and say go.

At the ranch you’d compose final words

With goodbyes and promising new concords.

Your oh so cool new private school friends

and my desolate old life of various drug blends

Coincide with our conversations becoming trite

And our relationship turns to just poetic fights.

I know the last page of the love story so well

That the first page of hope only foreshadows a hell.

I make myself so emotionally secluded

While you just comment on me being deluded.

You call every now and then

Actual phone calls as if its godsend.

But you hear Postal Service in the back

And wait to sing along with her rhetorical cracks

“You’re getting carried away feeling sorry

For yourself with these gaps in history,”

I tell you that I don’t think of the song

That way, yet I know you are not wrong.

  • This poem is composed of regurgitated lyrics from Nada Surf, Postal Service, Silver Jews, Brendan Benson, Built To Spill and other hipster songs. And so you know, it is part of the poem, the allusions to certains songs and such, it isnt just a way to be unoriginally original.
