The past week has been some of the best days of my life.
I had an awesome time with Harry (the voice of your generation). We talked a lot, he had some fun in the kitchen, we watched a lot of movies, we sat around outside a lot and for the most part, things were just as they were in highschool, which was a great feeling after realizing how detached I know am from that time of my life. When I went back to New York for spring break, things with my other friends were different. I suppose those friendships somewhat depended on seeing those kids everyday, being in their classes, having a common grounding. And I suppose, since Harry and I did not really hang out in school and our relationship was seriously based on cutting class and hanging out, our friendship is not highschool based at all. Harry you are a great guy and a great friend.
School has been awesome as well. I've learnt to love all my classes, from Hebrew 402 to English 100 and Ecocriticsm. I mean yeh, Hebrew is annoying and I still spend the class waiting for it to end, but I still enjoy those 50 minutes. Oh and I really love speaking Hebrew. I am doing really well in school and am not having as much of a problem doing my work, which makes me really proud. The other day in Comparative Literature (Modern and Contemporary), we were talking about how Raskolnikov's murders stem from his hatred of the arbitrery. Someone asked why then are his killings so planned, that they hardly seem arbitrery at all? And I answered that it is Dostoyevsky's symbolism. The pawnbroker represents the arbitrery as a profession, capable of placing values on objects whose values are infact, priceless. And even more so, she doesn't even value money, her own arbitrey judgements because she doesn't spend the money. Therefore, she represents the arbitrery. I'm brilliant.
Thursday night I had a little party. My apartment is somewhat small, I've gotten noise complaints before, so I only wanted like 20 kids. So twenty kids showed. I mixed some really strong and tasty screwdrivers and sunsets (and sunrises). We were all having a great time when a friend of mine called from the Mooney Suzuki concert in UW (which I could not attend because I went to see the Leramie Project), saying that the Mooney Suzuki would like to come to the party. I, of course, said "Bring em on." Sure enough, thirty minutes later, the Mooney fucking Suzuki, who has videos on MTV, plays with the Strokes and the Realistics, has a Sony Records contract, was at my door. Sam (the headsinger) and Augie (the guitarist) were having a great time at my party with me and my friends. Really unbelievable. And I still think that I am hardly cool enough to have bands just chilling at my place, but they had a great time and one of them probably got laid in my bathroom, but I'd rather not talk about that as it is disturbing. So that was really cool. I mean there are more details and anecdotes I could tell from the party, but I just rather not write them.
I've come to realize that I have awesome friends here. I mean they aren't just the kids I lived with in my dorm, they extend to TAs who come over to have some wine and listen to English 80s punk (the Replacements, Gang of Four, The Mikons...) to my old house fellow (RA). They are all great people and I really like them. They open up to me and I get to learn a lot about people and them...yeh I don't know. Anyway, that is the update for today. Goodnight everyone.
