Now I'm Artsy Wordy and Dorky

24 Hour Party People

I had an awesome day. First, I woke up early, made breakfast and reviewed for my midterm, which I did really well on. Then I went to my lectures. Then I went to Urban Outfitters and got some awesome pinstripe pants I've been wanting for two years because they were finally a reasonable price (25$). Then I got a burrito and watched this movie, 24 Hour Party People, recommended by my old TA and now good friend, Steven Feffer. It was soo good. Basically it is about the Manchester punk scene and the New Wave rave scene taking over. It is hysterical and really well done. Plus the music is excellent as are the stories. Makes you like 50% smarter. And then of course, I downloaded all this Joy Division, Happy Mondays, New Order and spent the rest of the afternoon listening to New Wave and cleaning my apartment. I think New Wave got a bad name and is in fact really good and totaly influential, especially the really early Joy Division stuff. I've been really expanding my musical taste lately. That is all I have to say tonight. Consider this post a gift, cause I am still on "break" and all.

Dude, that's what the whole "electroclash" and "new synth pop" thing is based on - New Order and them. It's a trend right now, big Williamsburg "let's wear leg warmers" thing. Bands like W.I.T. and even Ladytron all trying to be like that 1982 movie "Liquid Sky."

I think the leg warmers are a bit later, more culture clubish, the tight jeans torn up tshrits with the scarfs seems to be the look in the movie. But yeh.

yeah man, your really behind. the whole dance rock, new wave, electrfonica thing has been making a comeback for a while. B_BURG --- A.R.E. Weapons, !!!, etc. BUt even though your late, its always awesome to get into the great music of diff eras. Synth pop is pretty swanky.
Avi 2003-03-07
Not as swanky as you

Forget New Wave. If everyone just listened to the Pixies all the time, the world would be a better place.
Demosthenes 2003-03-10
The collective honor of all of the decadence and sorrow that pervades medieval sub-culture. the new wave is back and here to stay. fuck the pixies. fuck. you !@ i dont think that this is a co. stop meand. notwist. sigur
