My Birthday is On Janurary 29th. I turn 19. So BUY ME THINGS!!!.
I can't believe no one has bought me anything! Seriously! I've gotten web celebs like myself presents if I've been reading their blog for awhile. Some of you have been reading this for like a year! I am shocked and appalled that you don't feel the undying NEED to make me feel wanted and appreciated on my birthday! Fork over 10-20$ and get me a DVD or a BOOK today. TODAY! When I check my site tommorow, there better be at least 20 comments on people buying me presents. I will get you something websitey (relating to the website) in return, swear. Well anywho, to the post.
I am sitting in a computer lab where I swear the technicians must have wanted to play a practical joke because these are the worlds loudest mother fucking keyboards ever! And when you get like 30-40 college students typing at highspeeds it sounds like chipmunks, squirrells and pigeons are invading the computer lab. It is really disorienting. So to avoid that terrible terrible sound, I've put on my headphones and am listening to Elvis Costello (notice the smooth transition from general daily things to the object of the post - and you don't buy me birthday presents, pshaa!). The hands down coolest thing about Elvis Costello - aside from being named Elvis and not being Elvis but still being a great musician - is that everyone knows he is good. Everyone has some conception of oh yeh, Elvis Costello is good, I guess. But the real fans, they really know how good he is, almost like being able to use the word PostModern and make sense. How many times have you heard someone say, "Yeh that is postmodern and I like it." Sure, he knows that is postmodern, but imagine knowing why being PoMo is good. Listening to Elvis Costello creates that feeling (which is really hard considering Post Modern is the vaguest motherfucking term ever (side note, man I am cursing a lot in this post). I've decided that for the special guest of my indie festival in madison (see other post about indie festival) I am going to bring out Mr. Costello for the closing where I will accompany him on the drums for 45 and then on the piano for Tart. That would be so fucking cool. (there I go again with the cursing) So yeh, I am an elvis costello fan and I am so much cooler than you because I know, I know why Elvis Costello is cool.
My English 168 (Intro to Modern Lit of some sort) was awesome. After having every bad lecturer in the university, this guy (I think Prof Steele) is awesome. He did an amazingly astute and close reading of the Heart of Darkness. It just blew me away. I wrote down like three pages of notes, it was really great. I feel brilliant and enlightend. Even more so with that Elvis Costello thing. But my other lecture (Comp Lit 202 Modern and Contemporary) is murder. Horrible horrible lecture. He did an analysis of the first 4 acts of King Lear as Existential in one lecture. Never once did he actually draw the comparison - it just sucked. Well that is that for today, everyone stay cool, peace out yaall.
