It sucks not being able to spend as much time writing Daily Doses as I used to spend. I am approaching the One Year anniversery of the site and have only 200 entries. That isn't daily and it pisses me off that I haven't kept a better journal. Lately, I've been reading back entries a lot, I really enjoy them. Hope you guys do too. I am in one of the libraries in UW, working on a revised version of Star Gazing for my creative writing portfolio and my research paper for a class called critical thinking. I was allowed to stay in my dorm until dec. 19th. I think I am going to pierce my right ear lobe on the way back from the library. I read a short play by my TA for Critical Thinking, steven feffer (we call him Fef, steve, or steve the great). The play is called Little Airplanes of the Heart. It was really great. I am going to attempt writing a short play in the future. There are like four stories I started this year, 3 of them I really want to finish in the near future. I keep on thinking that eventually I am going to have the time to sit and write. In highschool I thought it would be over breaks. At the end of highschool I figured over the summer. When summer ended, I assumed in college I would write a lot. And now, with the conclusion of the first semester looming in the not so far future, I wonder if I am ever going to become the writer I want to be. Emerson once said that "You become what you think about all day." I love emerson. Considering I can't imagine not writing for the rest of my life, and life being as long as it seems, I will find the situation where writing will be what I do all day. For now, thinking about it all day will suffice. And besides, I am applying for the creative writing school on monday (with the revised and edited version of Star Gazing), so I will be writing next semester. What else is going on?
Emily, my Bradley Fellow (that's what we call RAs here in Madison) reffered to, in a comment on the last post on the site, that I had a conversation with her. She was telling me how chaotic the dorm has become and how she is having issues dealing with certain peoples repetive problem causing nature. I told her about this time over the summer, when I hadn't seen my grade, besides my good friends, for over month. A kid had a birthday party at this club and most of my grade showed. So I saw everyone and it was really wierd. I said that it made me feel out of place. It was chaotic, between girls going down on guys in booths, people snorting coke in the bathroom, and so on. I felt like I was standing in the middle of the room, looking straight ahead, yet the room was spinning, so I only could focus on certain events while they were in my field of vision. And then they would rotate away. I can't really explain the feeling well. It was that night that I drove home, really quickly, listening to "Let Down" by Radiohead and the image of the GW bridge changed from jumping off the tower, to the one of my father's, the beautiful bridge lit so elegently. I'm sure I've mentioned both images on the site before. But the Radiohead song really reminds me of the feeling and, as I've said before, I enjoy listening to the song and letting my mind wonder through the events of that night. More specifically, I feel like that night summarized something about highschool, so my mind makes it way to moments in school. It is just a great trip into memory. I told Em about the radiohead song. Today, I was walking around my dorm and I heard "About A Boy" by Badly Drawn Boy in a friend's room. She was listening to the mix I had made her. Emily's room was playing Radiohead. It just made me feel good.
Well better get back to working. I really need a copy of Slanted and Enchanted. Maybe I will buy the rereleased version on the way to getting my ear pierced. Better finish up though if I want to do all that before I go out tonight. "Wave to the camera."
