Not having much to say right now, I thought I would just reprint my review of "Die Another Day." But eh, fuck that. If you want to see it, it is at the Badger Herald. Just search for Avi Flombaum there and you will get a list of all my articles. Exciting right?
I watched TV today for the first time since I've been in college. Luckily, there were interesting things on TV. Hook was on first. That's a pretty good movie but it has a bunch of actors I really hate, namely Robin Williams and Julia Roberts. I kept on having to change the channel in the middle of the movie cause the cheesy scenes make me queesy. Robin Hood Men In Tights and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves were both on, so I was switching between spoof. The Critic, a show I love and have not seen for quite a while was on, twice. Cheers was on. Braveheart and my favorite Casablanca were on as well. My roommate and friend (Mei-Ling) watched in amazment as I recited everyline from the opening sequence word for word. I know, I am god. So that was my experience watching TV.
I am writing an english paper now, it is almost done but there is more work to do and well, I am getting tired and super disenchanted. I am very disenchanted lately. Especially with a particular friend of mine. You know, sometimes in life you really regret ever putting yourself in the situation to a) care about a person and b) expect the person to care about you. I mean I was totaly devasted this weekend and all I got from this friend was a friendly reminder that when she says she would hypothetically visit me in jail, she does not mean she will sleep with me. Perhaps the lack of sensitivity does not really work online, but imagine that? Other mean things were said, unintentionally of course, but nontheless, I really needed people who care about me and make me feel good, and I was totaly let down by someone I've went out of my way to make feel good before. SHitty friends eh?
The post by Kyle @ Intersection about Pavement and Nirvana is incredible. Anyone who has any interest in music should read that post. It is fantastic.
Casablanca is perhaps one of the greatest stories ever; from the love story aspect to its perfect comparison as a metaphor of American isolationism. Rick's American Cafe and Rick reperesent America during World War II. Isolationists and profiteers, Rick never involved, refusing to stick his neck out and only act as a mediator. Understood? And then you have Ilsa and Laslo, Renault, and Strasser. All clearly representitive of their sides...Finally Rick (America) decides to get involved and saves the day. So on and so on, it is a pretty obvious point to me but deserves some attention and is essay worthy if thought about in a more interesting manner that I just cannot seem to write out this moment.
I am going home on thursday, excited about that. Hmm what else. I suppose this is the end of the post no? I am out of ciggerettes and that is really upsetting. That that that. That that that. Sounds like a good song, no?
