oh yeh
Now I'm Artsy Wordy and Dorky

Commitment

Everyday, seeing as it is a cold world to live in, I see people wearing scarfs. These scarf-wearing people have somehow commited to just one scarf. A scarf that fits them well - not too long or short - that looks good - some people like strings scarfs, nits, etc. - that keeps them warm, and that is the only scarf they want. Having more than one scarf is pointless as you can only be out with one of them at a time, so these people must be really positive, 100% sure that the scarf they are with, is the only scarf they want.

I can't commit like that; being confined to just one scarf isn't for me. But I am torn apart by the numbness of not having a scarf and the fickleness of being with more than one scarf. My neck is cold and I want it to be warm but I just can't commit to one scarf! Ten minutes out of the store I will be thinking, was this really the scarf for me? And how much am I willing to pay for this relationship? Is the scarf of my dream worth 50$ or should I settle for a cheap scarf? They both will get me warm, so is one more meaningfull than the other? How people commit to just one scarf is beyond me.

I am a scarf savant (i knit them) and i say having one scarf that is super special, i.e. a handmade one, is an extremely satisfying experience. personally, i dont wear them, but the added ingredient of care puts them a notch above the rest, or so im told from the numerous people who have received them.

There are people who own multiple scarves, Avi, you just have to decide if you're really ready to be a one-scarf man. If not, you can just buy two, it won't really be that difficult to decide which to wear on a given day.

Gross I know you are a scarf savant, and I know how well you knit. Kudos.

you can only own multiple scarves though if theyre cheap, machine made pieces of crap that hold no emotional ties and represent all that is wrong with the world.
Avi 2002-11-20
Gross are you actually talking about scarfs?
Gross. 2002-11-20
well of course. what else would i be talking about? scarves are such wonderfully symbollic and deep things. people just dont take the time to think about them enough.

i think you should get a red scarf
Adam Holt 2002-11-20
I think you should get a spiky scarf. Then you'd be badass.
Michal 2002-11-20
I dont think anything could make Avi Flombaum a badass. Maybe Marylin Manson..no, not even he could make Avi a badass. sorry man.
Talia 2002-11-20

Harvard is an inferior institute of education.
Avi 2002-11-20
I don't know what these people are talking about. I start with a simple metaphor, and boom, suddleny harvard is an inferior institution. Or on the other hand, it appears that any event in life, at least as the New York Times and Wall Street Journal would like you to believe, is in fact either a direct result of or cause of Harvard not being as good as people say. Hey but what do I know?
Demosthenes 2002-11-20
Harvard takes people that are already pompou bastards, and does what the rest of the world coudnt do, make them more pompous. This isnt directed at any specific member of the harvard community, but i think when applying to college ppl should go for a place that actually tries to educate its students.

oh, like coker college in hartsville, sc. a fine institution of higher learning and cranberries.
