I love the Flaming Lips. Before leaving for Wisconsin I saw them live. It was a really cool show complete with live video feed with a fade effect, humans dressed as farms animals dancing on the stage, Japanese school girls shooting eachother and much much more. Modest Mouse also played, they were really good, too short a set. In between sets there was this blue grass band playing, which was good too. Enough about new york, lets fly 831 miles over to madison wisconsin, my new home.
Life here is good. Clean air, Chipmunks, which are sooo much cuter than new york squirrels, and the kids are nice. I've met some really cool kids and we've been partying. I went to two concerts, a dance, I'm having fun with it. I just need to adjust timing so I know when its okay for me to sit and write and be anti-social. My room is, of course, a mess and the housing fellow gave me reason to worry upon finding a burrito in my sheets. My computer isnt quite set up yet, but I've been pretty lazy. Yeh that is about everything I have to say.
A Short Review of the Good Girl
Rachel from friends gives an excellent and believable performance as a country girl disatisfied with her hand in life. She seeks meaning in a holden caulfied impersonator and the love affair begins as they "get" eachother. Ya da ya da, see the movie to learn the plot. The point is that the movie is commentating on, what I believe, to be a weekness in Cather in the Rye. At the end of Catcher in the Rye, I remember questioning Holden's rebellion, was there a point to it? He is just as fucked in the mental hospital as he was in society, so the revolution, the quest for realness (as opposed to phoniness) seemed to me to be futile. The Good Girl's cast of characters represent the different lots in life - one store clerk is very happy about being cattle, the other makes cruel jokes, Rachel's husband is a painter who just smokes pot all day - everyone is dealing with their position in life differently, and what the movie is doing, by countering each character with their opposites, by having everyone deal with life in a different manner, but having each path lead to the same place - namely the grave - the movie is pointing out that each path is futile. Holden's, the over zealous store clerk - the optomist - the cynic, they all die and the best is, what Rachel realizes at the end, is to do what you can do every moment.
Why Wisconsin is FUCKING awsome:
A Short Review
As everyone should know bye now, I currently reside in Madison Wisconsin, attending the University of Wisconsin. As I am having such an excellent time so far, I thought I would do a little something for Wisconsin and tell everyone how awsome it is here. Classes have not started yet, so I've been hanging out with the people in my dorm, Bradley (great dorm!!!). Us Bradleynites are awsome. We have went out everynight, two concerts, a dance, and now a comedy thing. While dancing, four of us took our shirts off, including me, and proceded to mack on every girl in the room, shirtless of course. We played Rave Ball, which is basketball while raving, it was really cool. We went crazy at the concert and got invited to an after party with the band - but didn't attend, as any band that would invite freshman, isn't cool enough to hang out with Bradley people. Sunday we are watching the 400 blows and making Crepes. I took a mile and a half hike today and went swimming in the lake. There was a rope to swing from - with a 15-20 foot drop - and that was really cool. I got burs on my legs, see all you east coast kids dont even know what burs are. I got flashed by some chick and grinded with this 6 foot blond girl (who was really hot). The weather is great and I am loving it here. Goodnight everyone.
